INDICTMENTS AND BREACHES OF ETHICS ARE ENDEMIC AT BROWARD HEALTH

INDICTMENTS AND BREACHES OF ETHICS ARE ENDEMIC AT BROWARD HEALTH

In the sometimes bizarro world of Broward Health, breaches of ethics and a Civil War is brewing just below the surface.  One side is Lynn Barrett, Broward Health’s Corporate Counsel. Remarkably it appears the other side is CEO, Bev Capasso, recently emboldened by her loosely negotiated employment contract.  Broward Health’s Board of Commissioners seems to split among the two camps.  Then there was the appointment of the newest Board member, Commissioner Ray Berry.  He was impressive at his first set of public meetings…

May 2018 Broward Health Marathon Board Meetings

May 2018 Broward Health Marathon Board Meetings

5/30/18 Broward Health Marathon Board Meetings A lot is going on at Broward Health.  Some of it is good.  Some of it, not so much.  Probably the biggest news for a public oversight perspective is the Governor’s latest appointment of Ray Berry.  While the Governor still needs to appoint two more commissioners to the Board, based on the performance of Commissioner Berry in his first public meetings at Broward Health – the Governor appears to have made a good choice…

Broward Health March 2018 Board Meetings

Broward Health March 2018 Board Meetings

Before I begin my comments about last week’s Broward Health’s meetings, I want to explain how I excerpt the  Meeting Agenda Packets.  While I am recording the meeting, I make every attempt to get copies of any and all the documents the Board or Committee is reviewing and on which they base their decisions.  I then scan all these documents specifically excluding the voluminous medical staff credentialing sections and post them as Agenda Meeting Excerpts. My Meeting Impressions: HR Committee…

Of Politics, Guns & The Douglas 17

Its February 18th, 2018, 7:30 a.m. and my deadline for this article is 5:00 pm today.  As I write, I realize I’m wrestling with both political and personal anger, sadness and frustration with the news of the day. By far, I am affected by the horrific images of the student massacre at Parkland’s Marjorie Stoneman Douglas school.  It is nothing short of a colossal, massive failure of just about everyone and everything leaving unspeakable pain in its path.  As a…

Feckless Broward Health Board Gulps the Cool-Aid

Feckless Broward Health Board Gulps the Cool-Aid

I’m trying to understand why I am so angry tonight after spending most of the afternoon and early evening at a pair of Broward Health Board Meetings. I don’t think that the fact the Board, after a transparent charade, would choose now indicted and under an ethical cloud Interim CEO Capasso as Broward Health’s permanent CEO made me angry.  After all, last year I wrote an article “Barrett Continues to Purge Top Broward Health Employees,” and I predicted that the…

Broward Health Saw Massive Changes in 2016-2017: HHS Report

I attended several committee meetings and the Broward Health Board meeting on November 29th.  At that meeting, the Board approved and certified with their signature a massive 836-page annual report required by the 70 million dollar settlement with the federal government.  Tthe scope of this Second Annual Report is the period from August 31, 2016, through August 30, 2017. I requested a copy of this report as it’s appearance and certification at a public meeting of the Broward Health Board…

Christopher Ure tries to derail Broward health CEO selection, again!

Broward Health Special Board Meeting 1/23/18- 2nd set of CEO Interviews Today I attended and recorded the Broward Health Board interview the last two of four CEO finalists. That is four of some 4-600 applicants for the CEO job at Broward Health. Both candidates today were exceptional and in my view, all four candidates – the two from yesterday, and the two today all demonstrated the competence, experience, and objectivity that any public board would seek. You can watch today’s…

Broward Health Board Interviews First Two CEO Finalists

Broward Health Board Interviews First Two CEO Finalists

After more than two years searching for a permanent Chief Executive Officer, the Broward Health Board began it interview process today with the first two of four finalists. Perhaps the seminal moment came at the end of each interview with a question from Chairman Rodreguez. He asked plainly – where does quality start [at Broward health]? The interviewees wisely sidestepped the question through a patient care perspective because the correct answer – that quality starts with the Board and senior…
